Travel and Accomodation

Santiago de Compostela is located near the geographical centre of Galicia. Its International Lavacolla Airport (code SCQ) connects the city by plane with direct flights from the main Spanish cities (Alicante, Barcelona, Bilbao, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Las Palmas, Madrid, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, Sevilla, Tenerife, Valencia) as well as other European airports (Dublin, Frankfurt, London, Paris, Milano, Zurich, Ginebra, Basel, Istambul, Bruxelles, Roma).

The other two Galician airports, A Coruρa-Alvedro and Vigo-Peinador, are 60 km and 80 km, respectively, from Santiago. Train and car rental are recommended to reach Santiago de Compostela.

The international airport of Porto (Portugal) is 237 km apart, but it has good connections with Santiago de Compostela by train and bus. Autna Bus runs a direct route between Porto and Santiago de Compostela. Furthermore, some air companies often arrange shuttle services.

The city can also be reached by train or bus from other Spanish and European cities. If you prefer travelling by car, you will like to know the main roads: Atlantic Motorway AP-9 links Santiago de Compostela with Portuguese border; Northwest Dual Carriageway A-6 links Galicia with the rest of Spain via Lugo; Rias Baixas Dual Carriageway A-52 links Galicia with the rest of Spain via Ourense, AP-53 / AG-53 Motorway connects with the AG-53 Motorway to Ourense and Madrid; Cantabrico Dual Carriageway A-8 links Galicia with France via the Cantabrian coast.

You can come on foot as well, following the Way of St. James, but in this case it will definitely take you much, much longer!

Connections to City Center

Getting to Santiago de Compostela is easy. The airport is 10 km away from the city centre. There is a shuttle bus service between Lavacolla and the city centre every 30 minutes from 6:45 AM to 12:45 AM. (Single 3.00€; return 5.00€). A taxi fare to/from the airport to/from the city centre costs approx. 21€.
