Tutorial 1: "Estimating Solutions for the EEG/MEG Inverse Problem"
Fernando Lopes da Silva, M.D., Ph.D.
Emeritus Professor, Center of Neuroscience, Swammerdam Institute for Life Sciences, Science Park 904, Kamer C 3. 274. 1098XH Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Prof. Lopes da Silva is one of the world references in neurosciences. Besides his medical formation he has a strong component on engineering and mathematics. In that sense he is perfect for bridging medicine and engineering.
He was one of the pioneers on neuronal modeling, first at UK and then in Netherlands.
Tutorial 2: "Human Activity Recognition with 2D and 3D Cameras"
Zicheng Liu is a senior researcher at Microsoft Research, Redmond.
He has worked on a variety of topics including theoretical computer science, computer
graphics, computer vision, and audio signal processing.
His current research interests include human activity understanding, and face
modeling and animation.
He received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Princeton University, a M.S.
in Operational Research from the Institute of Applied Mathematics, Chinese Academy
of Science, and a B.S. in Mathematics from Huazhong Normal University, China.
Before joining Microsoft Research, he worked at Silicon Graphics as a member of
technical staff, and developed a trimmed NURBS tessellator which was a core
component in OpenGL and OpenGL-Optimizer products.
He has published over 100 papers in peer-reviewed international journals and
conferences, and holds over 50 granted patents. He co-authored a book entitled
“Face Geometry and Appearance Modeling: concept and applications” published by
Cambridge University Press. He won the best paper award of the 2007 IEEE International
Conference on Multimedia and Expo.
He has served in the technical committees for numerous international conferences.
He was a technical co-chair of 2006 IEEE International Workshop on Multimedia Signal
Processing, a technical co-chair of 2010 and 2014 International Conference on
Multimedia and Expo, and a co-organizer of CVPR Workshop on Human Activity
Understanding from 3D Data in 2011, 2012, and 2013. He was a general co-chair of
2012 IEEE Visual Communication and Image Processing. He served as a guest editor
of IEEE Transaction on Multimedia. He is an associate editor of Machine Vision
and Applications journal, and an associate editor of the Journal of Visual
Communication and Image Representation.
